The act of firing pottery from approx. 2250⁰F (1232⁰C) to approx. 2530⁰F (1390⁰C) is considered high fire. Many times, gas kilns will be used to run a high fire. gas firing without introducing wood ash or soda is useful because it produces results that are very similar every time. In my opinion, if you are aiming for greater consistency while still having atmospheric possibilities, downdraft gas kilns are the way to go.
